About me

My name is Harry Parker; I am passionate about working in the film industry, specifically in the area of screenwriting, due to my enthusiasm for the creative process of filmmaking. I was diagnosed at a very young age with a genetic metabolic condition, which sits on a spectrum of disorders, known as Peroxisomal Biogenesis Disorders, and affects 1 in 50,000 people.  This affects me in many ways, but the main symptoms that impact my daily life include deafness and visual impairment. Those more severely affected do not live past childhood. Remarkably, I’m an adult now due to having a relatively mild form of the condition. Living with this disorder has given me a unique perspective on life and influenced my creative process in filmmaking, especially screenwriting.

I like to write in a wide range of genres and narrative structures. The main genres I love to write about are horror, fantasy, and drama; I focus on character-driven narratives and visual storytelling. I write because I have a passion for the creative process of filmmaking and telling stories about people.

Filmmaking is my passion, and while screenwriting is my main pursuit, I  ensured that I have a diverse skillset and experiences to help further the quality of my work.

 Skills experience

 

• General skills and knowledge gained through my study of Film Production at the University of Gloucestershire. 

• Exposure to a wide range of areas including cinematography, sound mixing/recording, editing, directing, assistant directing, production design, vision mixing and screenwriting.

• Writing short film screenplays independently and with a partner

• Scheduling, planning, and managing resources as a short film Producer

• Creating short films, commercials and other productions independently and with fellow students   

• Experience with multiple editing software/apps, including Videoshop, Clipchamp, and Adobe

• Experience with scriptwriting software particularly Celtx

• Experience with mood board software particularly Shot Deck 

•  Experience using the Canon C100 MK2 camera

• My illness has meant I have faced challenges throughout my life which I have been able to overcome with determination and resilience.  

Employment aspirations

As I near the completion of my Film Production degree I am looking for opportunities that allows me to continue to build on the theoretic and practical experience I have obtained.  

I have a particular passion for screenwriting and the creative process of filmmaking. I would love to find employment in this area but I’m open to any junior role in the film and television industry.    

Despite my rare condition I have been able to progress through school at the same pace as my contemporaries and will soon complete my Film Production Degree from the University of Gloucestershire.   

I believe my passion and enthusiasm would be an asset to any prospective employer and I welcome any enquiries.
